Standard for Vote Tabulators

CAN/CIOSC 119-1

What this Standard Covers

This standard specifies minimum technical requirements for technology currently used in Ontario provincial elections for vote tabulators. It provides a set of robust technical requirements to ensure these technologies provide the basic functionality, accessibility, verifiability, operability, and security capabilities required of voting systems, while maintaining the core democratic principles of elections in Canada.

This standard is intended to advise and guide election administrators as they consider adopting, evaluate, and deploy voting technologies.

Emerging technologies not currently used in Ontario provincial elections (e.g., internet voting, DRE machines, telephone voting) are not in scope for this standard.
